About Party Up

Party up had it's beginnings in 1969 when John Mikkelsen purchased a machinery hire company (City Hire Centre) at 74 Waldegrave Street in Palmerston North. In 1981 John and his wife Susan saw an opportunity to hire out party equipment. They purchased the house next door to the business and converted it into a party hire showroom, storage facility and installed a commercial dishwasher.

In 1984 their son Richard (now Managing Director of Party Up Ltd) joined the company and started working in the party hire division of City Hire Centre.

The business continued to grow and flourish over the years and in 1995 the business in it's entirety moved to  Rangitikei Street. Then in July 2017 moved into a brand new purpose built facility on Milson Line.

A year later in 1996 Richard and wife Michelle purchased the party hire division from Richard's parents and continued to grow the legacy of John and Susan's idea all those years ago.

Today Party Up Ltd is the Manawatu's premier marquee and event/party hire company. Marquee weddings and events are our specialty, so we only hire quality New Zealand made marquees that are built for our diverse and changing weather patterns.

We are members of HIANZ (Hire Industry Association of New Zealand) and erect our marquees in accordance with the best practice guide as written by the Hire Association.
